Since we have started our circular fashion journey this year, we've come across quite a few amazing resources. And, of course, we couldn't go any further without sharing some of those amazing resources with you. So here's our list of top reads to introduce you to the circular economy, circular fashion, and beyond:
Circular Fashion: Making the Fashion Industry Sustainable by Peggy Blum: I've mentioned this one before, and will continue to do so. It's a great overview of the major pillars that make up circular fashion. The text also provides case studies form well-known brands that have embraced a circular business model from day one.
Circular Design for Fashion by The Ellen MacArthur Foundation: The first thing you should know about the Ellen MacArthur Foundation is that they are leaders in circular economy education and awareness. They are an amazing resource for any part of a circular journey and highly recommended. This book is no different. Another that provides definitions, explanations, and case studies from firsthand accounts, it will immerse you (quickly) into circular fashion.
To Dye For : How Toxic Fashion Is Making Us Sick - And How We Can Fight Back by Alden Wicker: Not necessarily a piece about circular fashion, but definitely an eye-opener that also drops a few sustainability golden nuggets. The book explores how certain textile dyes and finishes have evolved over time, as well as their potential health risks. If you're into the history of clothing, textiles, science, and the environment, this one is for you.
A.BCH World by Courtney Holm, (the founder and designer behind Australian, circular brand, A.BCH, now consultancy): If you have ever wanted to see all sides of a brand and how things work, Courtney shares it here. She has converted her brand into a learning hub and consultancy on all things circular design related. I had the opportunity to chat with Courtney at my very early stages and she shared a plethora of her knowledge with me. I frequently use her work as a reference.
Molte News by Cynthia Power (founder and consultant of Molte Volte, a circular consultancy): Cynthia shares various viewpoints, references from clients she's worked with, as well as her 15+ years of experience in the field. I also had the opportunity to speak with Cynthia earlier this year and continue to learn from her weekly through a shared podcast with her co-host, Laura Novich, as well as a member of their first Circular Fashion Coalition cohort. You will find a wealth of information in Cynthia's newsletter and it's definitely worth subscribing.
For now, that's all we have for you. We don't want to overload anyone with all of the resources we're gathering at once. However, we will make this a standing monthly/bi-monthly chronicle to share great publications and any news relevant to what we're doing.
Until next time...
